Official Release | July 5, 2024

The partnership will see Africell help the Angolan Government to renovate or construct community and school sports facilities, creating opportunities and access for sports lovers of all ages nationwide. The initiative is designed to contribute to Angola’s National Sports Plan (PLANADESPORTO), currently pending approval by the Council of Ministers.

According to CEO, Ziad Dalloul, Africell’s aim through the project is to create a lasting and sustainable lasting impact especially in disadvantaged neighborhoods.

The partnership was discussed on 27 June during a meeting between both parties, that took place at the Ministry of Youth and Sports headquarters. Present were Minister Rui Falcão, Secretary of State for Sports Teresa Baião, Africell Group CEO Ziad Dalloul, and Africell Angola CEO Jorge Vazquez.

Speaking after the meeting, Minister Falcão said he was excited about the collaboration. “Africell is already doing a lot of work in the field of community sports, especially basketball, and it is good to be able this to other areas”, he explained.

Since 2022, Africell has been promoting basketball in Angola through a partnership with NBA Africa that involves holding basketball tournaments and clinics for under 18s, and the rehabilitation of public courts.
